April 14, 2014 - NEW Albion packaging—Starting May

Print

CLEARFIELD, UTAH (April 14, 2014): Albion is pleased to announce an improved, two-part packaging system for its products. Scheduled for introduction in May of 2014, Albion will begin packaging the majority of products in an industry standard PBOM (acronym for pinch bottom open mouth Kraft bag). Much more robust in resisting oxygen and moisture, the Kraft bag will be replacing the traditional Fiber Drums.

Structure
In addition to the ruggedness of the Kraft outer layer, the bag structure will contain a layer of foil to help prevent oxygen and moisture from reaching the mineral product during shipping and storage. The second part of the system will consist of an inner bag liner constructed of LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene).  The inner bag liner will not only provide an additional layer of resistance to oxygen and moisture, but will also allow the bulk product to be introduced into clean manufacturing areas, as required by some customers.

Benefit
Additional advantages of the improved packaging system are:
  • The new bags hold up to 25kg—more finished product can now fit onto a pallet, and bags take up less room in customers’ warehouses
  • Potential cost savings in shipping, as the bags are much lighter, and cube out better in shipping container
  • The bags are easier to dispose of and more suited to standard recycling

Transition
Although Albion will start using the new packaging in May, the transition as we work through existing inventory will take time. This has the potential to change customers’ processes. Orders could potentially be filled with both drums and bags, but only if separate products are ordered. For example, customers will not receive an order of Ferrochel partly in bags and partly in drums, but may receive Ferrochel in a bag and Magnesium Glycinate in a drum.

Prices are remaining the same per kilo, and the bags are all the same size. However, since some products are more dense than others, different amounts will fit in the bag. Check the chart below to see how your sizes might change; orders may need to be adjusted.
